Chess Board Design
Project type
Color Studies
For our Color Studies final project, we explored the principles of color theory and design by creating an object inspired by the iconic style of artist Piet Mondrian. Known for his minimalistic compositions of bold primary colors, black lines, and white spaces, Mondrian’s work provided a rich foundation for interpreting color relationships and harmony in a modern context.
The assignment challenged us to design any object of our choosing, integrating Mondrian’s signature aesthetic into its design. This involved thoughtful application of his principles, including the use of a grid structure, the interplay of positive and negative space, and a balance of asymmetry and proportion. My final piece was a chess board transformed through paint.
